"Born in Dorchester, April 29, 1784; died March 26, 1850; served during 1836.

He held office for about one year. During his administration the new courthouse in Court Square was completed. For the rest, the principal acts of his administration are said to have been 'the erection of an iron fence for the enclosure of three sides of the Common, and the extension of the mall through the burial grounds of Boylston Street.'

When he retired from office, the annual expenditures stood at over $816,000 and a debt had accrued of more than $1,500,000.The tax rate was then $4.75 per thousand."
