In 1742,
Peter Faneuil built
Faneuil Hall to be used as a central market, and then donated it to Boston as a
gift. Today, many fine specialty shops are located on the first floor
and basement of this very historic building. Entrances are located on each
side of the building except the north, with the
famous meeting hall entrance located opposite the Quincy Market building.
