Mine Sweepers Memorial, Boston Common

Next to the tall Soldiers & Sailors Monument on Boston Common is the Mine Sweepers Memorial. The memorial is an actual World War I Mark VI ocean mine with a plaque mounted on it. The Sub Chasers were tasked with mining the entrance to the North Sea from Norway to Scotland which was a huge job. About 56,000 mines were laid, with 22 U-Boats destroyed.
