Fort Independence, Castle Island |

A view of historic Fort Independence. For many years, Castle Island was just that, an island. A bridge was initially built connecting South Boston to the island, and then the area was landfilled, extending Day Boulevard to the Fort. Governor's Island and Fort Winthrop used to exist on the opposite side of the shipping channel, protecting the town back in sailing days, but Governor's Island was eventually flattened to become part of Logan Airport. |
