Frog Statue At The Frog Pond

Frog Statue, Boston Common

Boston Common contains a small pond. It was originally a natural body of water that used to drain into Back Bay. By the 1830s, the pond had been nicknamed the "Frog Pond." In 1848, the city's water system began to replenish the pond, and not just run-off from nearby Beacon Hill. In summer, the Frog Pond is an enjoyable spot to observe while walking through the Common. In winter, when the Frog Pond is frozen, one can ice skate for a fee.
