A view of Seaport Boulevard looking east. This area was
once a large tidal flat, and was known as Commonwealth Flats.
Commonwealth Pier was named after the flats, and was eventually re-named the
Boston World Trade Center (the local World Trade Center reference originated
in the early 1950s). For many years, the Seaport District was a large fishing
& shipping port, and also contained a significant garment district. The
area has been greatly revitalized, with a new court house, hotels, and
convention center constructed there. The Institute for Contemporary Art is
also located in the Seaport District. |
