A statue of Leif Erikson stands at Commonwealth Avenue and Charlesgate East. The Norse discovered North America around the year 1000 (debatably, others made the journey thousands of years earlier). In the late 1800s, there was a cultural movement to remember the feats of the Norse travelers, and this statue was erected in Boston in 1887. |
