Washington Street Parade In Boston, c.1880

Washington Street Parade, c.1880

This view is believed to be of Washington Street looking south, from Milk Street. W. M. Shute (hat & furs) was located at 335 Washington Street about that time, as well as the Saturday Evening Gazatte located at 2 Bromfield Street. The Shute store identification is the first awning on the right, and the Gazette id sign wraps the first corner on the right at 2nd floor level. It appears that a parade is about to start because crowds are gathered on both sidewalks. Also note the numerous flags hanging everywhere. It is presumed to be a Civil War veteran's parade of some kind.
