Thirteen Foot House Beacon Hill

Per covenants in the deed, a house built at this location on Mount Vernon Street can never exceed 13 feet in height. An early owner of the property did not want their view of Boston Common obstructed from across the street. There were many stables in the area, and Chestnut Street was nicknamed "Horse Chestnut Street," and that was not due to the species of tree in any way.
