Old Haymarket Square Boston

Haymarket Square Boston, 1910s

A view looking up North Washington Street in old Haymarket Square. Most of this area was demolished in the 1950s to make way for the Central Artery highway. The horizontal structure up North Washington Street is the old elevated railway on the Orange Line. There is a switching tower in the center, which would route trains north to Charlestown or east to the Atlantic Avenue loop.
