Old State House And Court Street, 1906

Old State House & Ames Building, 1906

This view is from the roof of the old Boston Stock Exchange Building on State Street (looking up Court Street). In the foreground is the Old State House. The tall building on the right is the Ames Building, a masonry skyscraper built in 1889. Almost all the buildings in this view have been demolished. On the right, the 60 State Street tower now stands. The old New England Merchants National Bank tower was constructed across Congress from 60 State. And behind the Old State House, the old Boston Company tower now stands; it was also known as "Dark X" back in the 1970s due to the tall cross-cross pattern on its facade. The top of the mansard roof of Old City Hall is visible on the left.
