Ames Building Facade Ames Building Facade

A view of the ornate facade of the Ames Building in Boston (now the luxurious Ames Hotel). There are brick mosaics (of stars) embedded in the granite. The tiered arched windows are typical of Romanesque style of architecture. There is an obscure story about a figurehead that once stood on the northeast corner (roof cornice) of the building. A figurehead that resembled Kaiser Wilhelm II was likely chopped off the building in 1921. This editor refers to the story as the Kaiser in Adams Square.
