Greenway Carousel
The Greenway Carousel near Quincy Market and Columbus Park

The Greenway Carousel is located on Atlantic Avenue near State Street. There is also a playground across the street in Christopher Columbus Park, making this area one of the few spots in downtown Boston with a concentration of attractions with activities for children. Long Wharf is within short walking distance, where one can find New England Aquarium and water shuttle to the USS Constitution in Charlestown. The Carousel is open seasonally from May through October, and does not operate during inclement weather (significant rain).

What is great about the Greenway Carousel is its location. The carousel stands in the park known as the Rose Kennedy Greenway. Facing north,Faneuil Hall Marketplaceis steps away on the left, and Christopher Columbus Park is on the right or east side. The ocean and Harborwalk footpath are on the other side of Christopher Columbus Park, with Long Wharf located behind theMarriott Hotel.New England Aquarium,Codzilla,Charlestown Ferry, Harbor Cruises,Chart House Restaurant, and other attractions located here. During summer, manyfree concertsand other performances take place at Christopher Columbus Park and City Hall Plaza.

Boston's famous North End neighborhood, known for its Italian restaurants and bakeries, is only a few blocks away at the intersection of Hanover Street. Many tourists and local folks also walk from the carousel easterly down Atlantic Avenue to Richmond Street, and then up to Hanover Street. This route takes one past North Square andPaul Revere's House. TheFreedom Trailcan be picked up at North Square or along Hanover Street.

The Rose Kennedy Greenway park system spans the entire length of Boston Proper from the Charles River in the north to Chinatown in the south. The 1.5-mile park is located where the old dilapidated Central Artery elevated highway once stood, which was thankfully replaced byThe Big Digtunnel system. There is a lot of green space in the park, as well as many fountains, benches, and canopies. People enjoy having lunch, picnicing, exercising, sunbathing, people watching, as well as many other activities at the Greenway. A lot of children also cool off during summer in the fountains as many are powered by spray-jets. During the evening, there are pleasant lights of various colors that attractively accent the fountains and canopies.

The Greenway Carousel is worth mentioning as a Boston Attraction is a sort of respite for children to enjoy an amusement ride in the center of a bustling city. There could also be a free concert or performance at adjacent Christopher Columbus Park to enjoy, or the family could walk over to the Marketplace can buy and pizza and a 2-litre bottle of soda, and then sit under the central domed food court or take it back to the Columbus Park on a beautiful summer day.
