Free Friday Flicks
Hatch Shell Movie Schedule

For more than 30 years, WBZ Radio has sponsored free movie events at the Hatch Shell during the summer. WBZ is 1030 on the AM dial, and provides 24 hours of news, weather, sports information, and talk radio. The official title of this traditional summer series is Free Friday Flicks, and is very popular with Boston Residents.

The movies start at dusk, and are usually films that were huge box office successes, both recent or modern classics. The Hatch Shell lawn fills up on a first-come, first-serve basis. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy this family-friendly free event. Alcohol is strictly forbidden at the Esplanade, with violators subject to arrest.

WBZ 1030 has a format of all news during the day, and talk radio during the evenings. Road condition updates called Traffic On The 3's, and detailed stock market updates, are extremely popular. The broadcast power of the station is significant, and at night callers may be phoning in from New York, Maine, or even farther away from Boston.

The station dates back to the 1920s, and many prominent radio and television personalities have worked there over the years. Some of the famous radio hosts include David Brudnoy, Norm Nathan, Larry Glick, Tom Bergeron, and Dave Maynard. WBZ 1030 has a reputation of objectivity and integrity; a rare status in today's multi-medium society.

Some of the famous movie titles that have aired in recent years at Free Friday Flicks include Frozen, Shrek, Grease, Back To The Future, and the family classic Wizard Of Oz. Come down to the Hatch Shell and enjoy a free movie at this unique venue. Free Friday Flicks is a public service of WBZ and its sponsors.

Due to popular demand we included the official time for sunset, when the sun drops below the horizon. Arrive before sunset of course!
