Prudential Center
Events, Concerts, and Movies
Prudential Center is a 23-acre complex in Boston's historic Back Bay District. There are hotels, office towers, apartments, the Hynes Convention Center, the popular Prudential Center Mall, and the iconic Prudential Building, all located within the complex.
Free concerts are provided by Prudential Center for the enjoyment of shoppers, tenants, and clients. During summer, the main venue for concerts and entertainment is the south garden located near Central Court. The garden contains a large well-maintained lawn, peripheral cafe-style outdoor seating, sculptures, water fountain, and a small stage in one corner for the free concerts. Many people also have lunch in the garden, which offers superb views of the adjoining office buildings, all the while in a quiet and relaxing environment.
During the concerts, shoppers watch the performances from the lawn, at times with small blankets, which simulates the environment like that of a picnic. It is amazing to be able to leave the bustle of the city, walk through an attractive shopping mall arcade, and sit down and enjoy a live string or reed quartet.
The main music genre is classical, but there are performances by bands representing many other types of music such as jazz and other ethnic specialties. Family-friendly movies have also been aired during the summer at night, which is another unique opportunity to enjoy a free film and cool summer evening in the city.
It is a public service that Prudential Center provides free concerts and other entertainment. It's a great place to sit down and listen to quality classical music or jazz in a relaxing environment in the middle an urban area.
There are attractions located within the complex including the Prudential Skywalk and Hynes Convention Center. Copley Place is an adjacent shopping mall that can be accessed via an elevated walkway. Newbury Street is located one block north, and historic Fenway Park is located just east of The Pru.
